Born in 1981 in Pontoise, Romain Perda studied percussion, composition, analysis and improvisation in Persan, Cergy-Pontoise, Argenteuil and Paris. From 2005 to 2015, his love of traditional music led him to travel the world. After a stay in Mali, he developed a passion for the balafon, on which he developed a personal style of playing tinged with jazz and contemporary influences. In 2009 he founded the global jazz group Metismatic, with whom he performed for seven years and recorded two albums. He then joined Balaphonics (afro brass band) and Ikorita (world jazz), and took part in the creation of four albums. Closely involved with contemporary dance, he created the original music for the choreographic shows "Ombre d'Être" (Cie Blue Cells, 2018), "Empreinte" and "Fil" (Cie Les Corps s'en Mêlent, 2021). He regularly composes for instrumental ensembles: "Électrique" for mandolin quartet, "1910" for harp and string trio, "Paul Eluard" for children's choir and wind band, "Automates" for plectrum ensemble, etc.
Romain Perda has been teaching percussion at the Persan Conservatoire since 2003 and accompanies dance classes at the Cergy-Pontoise Conservatoire.
