Level: 2nd Cycle
This delightful minuet is taken from Suite No. 2 of L'Arlésienne, the incidental music composed in 1872 by the French composer Georges BIZET for Alphonse DAUDET's drama in three acts.
Although the solo part is intended for an experienced flautist, this version for wind orchestra may be accessible to 2nd cycle students depending on the technical level of the musicians.
This version seeks to approximate the original orchestration while offering alternatives that allow the conductor to adapt the instrumentation according to the configuration of the ensemble, while preserving the musical character of the work.
For example, the harp part can be played on a digital piano in search of the most appropriate sonorities. Other orchestrations are also on offer, with a number of 'faulty' parts that can be substituted for the harp, string double bass or alto saxophone.
A native of Chalon sur Saône, Philippe Vadrot studied trombone at the CRR in Dijon and then at the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris, where he was unanimously awarded the Diplôme Supérieur, followed shortly afterwards by the Diplôme d'Etat de Professeur de Trombone and the Diplôme d'Etat de Direction d'Ensembles Instrumentaux.
With a wealth of artistic and teaching experience in various listed establishments in the Hauts de France region, he passed the competitive examination for artistic education teacher in charge of directing, and until 2023 will be director of the conservatoire à rayonnement communal de La Madeleine in the Nord department. Fascinated by all forms of ensemble music, he has been conducting the La Madeleine wind band since 1999, with whom he explores a wide repertoire of original music, while at the same time producing numerous orchestrations and transcriptions of symphonic works.
In 2015 Philippe Vadrot was awarded the title of chevalier dans l'ordre des palmes académiques.
